Description

This is a project that I completed for my Word and Image class, taught by Beth Elliott at UCLA. I had a lot of fun with the project because we were giv en free reign to choose the design style for a very specific prompt. I decided to make a candy brand based around the aesthetics of the Riot Girl movement, which I see as being characterized by ideas of women’s empowerment, freedom of expression, DIY aesthetics, and activist themes. It was a challenge to achieve this vision while still maintaining the commercial standard for candy packaging.

I got to include another passion of mine in this project by designing a mini zine to place inside each candy box, as a sort of trading card esque prize to go with the candy. Package design is a much more interdisciplinary endeavor than many other forms of design, and it was great to be able to work on identity design, illustration, box architecture, collaged graphic elements, etc. in one project.

My favorite part of this project was tweaking the box architecture I wanted to use to fit the design perfectly.
